Do We Believe He Reigns?
On that most unusual and remarkable day…the day the risen Jesus ascended into heaven what happened? The disciples stood there gazing into the sky. The angels offered to them the assurance of His return. And it is this expanse of time we wait for the return of Jesus. Yet we are told in Hebrews 1:3 that he went to the right hand of Father after accomplishing what all of history looked for, the purification of sins, the redemption of man’s rebellion. Yet Jesus then sat down on the throne. What does it mean to sit down on the throne but to reign? Jesus presently reigns over the world. The entire cosmos is being sovereignly ruled by His might.
Do you believe this Jesus reigns? Do you believe He is actively purchasing back humans who have lost their way into His Kindgom now? If you do how does that affect your purpose in life? If Christ reigns and is bringing the entire world into one great event how have you so ordered your life with this perspective? Have you dropped your nets and followed the Master and King? In other words have you placed your destiny into the plans of Christ? Why and what are you pursuing? Why do you wake up in the morning? When you wake do you feel constricted and oppressed? How do you order the events of your day? Do you live simply to experience fun? Do you feel better about yourself when others show you attention and feel aweful when others don’t? Are you having trouble sleeping because you are so filled with anxiety? Are you in a relationship and you find yourself conforming yourself to that person, his/her wishes or desires?
A word of hope to you! Christ has come and made purification for you life if you would receive His life-gift. Christianity is a life based upon a gift, a gift of the perfect life you could not live, but is yours by faith. If you turn from trusting yourself and turn to the life-gift you will live. Your life then is defined by the present rule of Jesus who rules the affairs of the world. We have a King who brought us into His Kingdom. Let forginess and grace define your sense of God’s love for you. And go find your place in that Kindgom, and run after it with joy and hope.
