Go on Loving

It is one of Allen Jackson’s best songs in my mind. “I’ll Go On Loving You.” There is that tension of rejection and acceptance when you love radically, right? It is easy to love when you are confident of love in return, but how about when you are not sure of love in return? Remember that Coldplay song that speaks of love that goes to waste? Is that ever true? No. Love by definition can never go to waste. For this was the love of Christ. He was born to love sacrificially. He loved knowing rejection and transformed the world.

When those who are loved by Christ love in the face of deep pain and rejection, they can go on loving others because they are powerfully loved by God. Love flows from the deep faith/knowledge of the infinite love of Christ poured out like living water. So go on loving in spite of rejection…go on loving those who won’t love you, expecting the joy of Christ within and the hope of changing the other.
